Friday "Family Place" Series Set
Every Friday morning in December, Bisbee's Copper Queen Library
“Family Place Series” will sponsor a free series of workshops and
special activities from 10:30am – noon. Topics include Oral Health,
Mother & Child Nutrition, Child Development, Reading Readiness,
and Coping Behavior.
The series kicks off on December 1 with a presentation on “Oral Health”
by Maureen Kappler, RN, Program Coordinator for Adolescent Maternal-
Child Health of the Cochise County Health Department. Children will
receive a free toothbrush and toothpaste courtesy of Dr. Johnston’s
dental practice.
The following Friday, December 8, Diane Gregg, LMRN, Gentle Birth
Services, will discuss “Mother and Child Nutrition and Herbs.” She will
be joined by Laura Smith from the Bisbee Food Co-op on the topic of
healthy snacks.
On December 15, the Blake Foundation’s Frances Holguin will present on
“Development: Birth to Three,” and local residents Bonita Cid and Susan
Wille will join her to demonstrate “Infant Massage.”
“Reading Readiness” will be the topic on December 22, as Library
Programming Assistant Lauren Roberts shares information about ways to
prepare infants and preschoolers for reading fun. Every child attending
with a parent or caregiver will receive a free book through the library’s
“Reading Is Fundamental” program.
Finally, on December 29, Deanna Billinger, National Association of Mental
Illness, will present on “Coping with Family and Friends with Mental Illness.”
